THE TAXI TREASURE HUNT

 

For this treasure hunt you will be travelling all over London in an attempt to uncover clues and discover the answers to observation questions and photo challenges. You will need to arrange your own taxis, or put a budget aside for the teams to be able to flag down cabs, but in so doing they will have the opportunity to see much more of London. To solve the clues they will also need an indexed A - Z of London in which to find which destination they must head for to begin the treasure hunt. From there on they must work out where in London the next clue lies by solving the cryptic clues that make up this cunning quest.

Since you will have your own transportation the Taxi Treasure Hunt and can start and finish at a venue of your choice. You might like to meet up in a central London pub for a pre-challenge drink and then regroup again at a restaurant, wine bar, pub or even night club for the final reckoning during which you will mark the answers to the questions and discover which team is the winning team.

The route has been designed to provide participants with a journey that will take them all over central London. To ensure that you don't get lost each team is provided with a sealed envelope to pass to their taxi driver. This tells him where each of the clues are located and where he or she will need to drop you off and then pick you up again as you go off in search of each cryptic clue.

You will explore the mews that lie tucked away behind some exclusive and exquisite West End squares. You will venture into secret passageways and courtyards that snake their way through the historic heart of the City of London. You might head off to Chelsea to hunt down the square where James Bond's pad was located; or your clue could direct you into Shakespeare's London to seek a clue that might be hidden at the spot where he first trod the boards in the late 16th century. You could even find yourself steeping into an ancient church to venture beneath the streets into an Anglo Saxon crypt where a cunning clue is carefully concealed beneath an arched window.

There will be plenty to keep you guessing as you whiz around London, keeping your eyes peeled for tantalising clues that mean you must ask your driver to stop and let you out. Once at the site of clue you will need to proceed on foot, whilst your driver moves round to the pick up point at which you should, in theory, arrive at once you have found the answer to your question or completed the challenge that waits there for you. Once you have the answer it's back to the taxi to puzzle over the next destination that you must ask your driver to take you to.  

As with all our treasure hunts, the Taxi Treasure Hunt package consists of a set of cryptic clues that you will need to solve in order to find your way around the route. Each of the clues is a visual clue that refers to things you should be able to see from the spot where you are standing. No knowledge of the area, nor of the history of the area, is required. Reasonable powers of observation and deduction should be sufficient to help you find your way around the route. By reading what each clue says and concentrating on what it is telling you to do you should be able to pick your way around the route and solve the clues. In addition your pack will also contain a sheet of observation questions and a sheet of photo challenges. These are what score the points, and each correct answer is worth 100 points. They relate to items you will pass as you make your way around the Taxi Treasure Hunt route. The answers to these observation questions and photo challenges might be on blue plaques, on information boards, or even on tomb stones! But with a keen eye peeled and a natural curiosity locating the answers shouldn't be too difficult. How you find the answers is completely up to you. As we say, there is no such thing as cheating on the Taxi Treasure Hunt there is only initiative! So, by fair means or foul, it should be possible to find the answer to each question and thus increase your teams score.
